The English Consonants (Part 1)

Stops / Plosives  

As we have already studied that there are 44 sounds in English language. Out of 44, there are 24 consonants and  20 vowels sounds. In our todays topic, we will try to know the consonants sounds and their types. You can watch these videos from my YouTube Channel.

There are 4 types of consonants in English language. There are

 

  1. Stops/ Plosives
  2. Fricatives
  3. Affricates
  4. Nasals

 

 

Stops / Plosives  (sounds you cannot be held)

Plosive sounds are also known as stop sounds.  Theses sounds are produced by stopping the airflow in the vocal tract and then releasing it. There are 8 plosives in English language. Examples of plosive sounds are given below.
